Trip Highlights

Nubra
Valley lies in the north of Leh and is accessible over the Khardungla pass 5600
Mtr that is one of the highest motor able roads in the world. Apart from unparallel
trekking opportunities, the valley have several Buddhist Gompas Diskit Gompa
is 350 years old and is situated on the highest point near the village in which
there are about 120 Resident Buddhist Monks.
Detailed Itinerary
PRE TREK
Day 01 : Delhi / Leh
Arrive Leh and transfer to 'A' class hotel.
The rest of the day is free for acclimatization.
After dinner, overnight hotel.
Day 02 : Leh Acclimatize / Sightseeing
Post breakfast full day to acclimatize in Leh or you can also it to take a
tour of some of the famous Gompas (Monasteries) around Leh.
Thiksey Gompa : 17 kms from Leh enroute to Hemis Gompa, the Thiksey monastery
provides a panoramic view of the Indus valley from its vantage point atop a
hill. There are several temples and wall paintings of the Buddha. Close by is
the summer palace of the old Raja of Leh. This monastery is 800 years old with
statues made of silver and gold.
Shey Gompa : This monastery has a large 7.5 m copper statue of Buddha
plated with gold.
Hemis Gompa : 40 kms from Leh, built in 1630, it is the biggest monastery
in Ladakh. It is not visible from the road as it is located in a side valley.
Hemis has the largest thanka in Ladakh, which is unfurled once in 12 years (next
in 2004). It celebrates an annual festival attended by people from all over
the provinces who come to join in the celebrated mask dances. Packed lunch enroute.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 03 : In Leh
Morning excursion to Phyang Gompa. This Gompa is 20 kms from Leh on the right
side of Leh-Srinagar road. The beautiful statues and Thankas are worth seeing.
Also visit Spituk Gompa which lies on the right side of Srinagar-Leh road
about 6 kms short of Leh Proper. Some very interesting Thankas are pride of
this monastery. Afternoon free. Dinner overnight Hotel
ACTUAL TREK
Day 04 : Leh - Saboo
Transfer from Leh - Saboo to begin the trek, reach the campsite at Polu Digar.
Pass through lovely grazing areas to the campsite at Polu Digar. From this
vantage point, the Stok mountains appear to float majestically above the Indus
valley.
Day 05 : Continue upward to the Digar La base camp. A short day to aid
acclimatization.
Day 06 : Base camp/ Digar La (5420M)
Chumik Yogma : Make an early start to cross the 17,230 ft. Digar La. From
the top, views stretch south to the Zanskar range and north to the Saser range,
Ladakh's highest peaks. The descent is steady and we camp by a lovely meandering
stream at Chumik Yogma.
Day 07 : Chumik Yogma / Digar/ Khema :
Continue down through the village of Digar to the settlement of Khema.
Day 08 : Khema/ Kilkar La / Lalakh Gongma
Day 09 : Lalakh Gongma/ Pangyar, our base camp for the pass.
Day 10 : Pangyar / Wuri La (5310 M
Chumchar Our second pass! Ascend the 17,523 foot Wuri La for views all the
way to the Karakoram in Pakistan, descend to Chumchar. Pick up and drive back
to Leh.
POST TREK
Day 11 : Padum - Kargil
After breakfast drive to Kargil. Overnight in Kargil.
Day 12 : Kargil - Leh
After breakfast drive to Leh. Overnight in Leh
Day 13 : Leh - Delhi
After breakfast transfer to airport for Delhi flight and transfer to International
Airport (Delhi) for flight to onward destination.
