- Phuktal Gompa - Purne - Ichar - Mone - Padum - Kargil - Lamayuru - Leh - Delhi
trek starting from green valley of Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh to barren and
rugged landscape of Zanskar. Change of Himalayan topography and profile is most
evident and interesting. Activities: One of the most exotic treks in crossing
over to Ladakh from Himachal Pradesh. The trek starts at Darcha and after crossing
high Himalayan ranges and passes finishes at Padum - Capital of Zanskar. Drive
past the majestic peaks of Nun & Kun and visit the 1000 yr old magnificent
murals of Alchi.
Arrive Delhi, Met upon arrival and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 02 :
Transfer to railway station for supper fast train to Chandigarh. 3 hours . Arrive
Chandigarh, meet upon arrival and drive straight to reach Manali (1920M) by
covering 338 kms. Arrive Manali and check into hotel for overnight stay.
Day 03 :
Morning at leisure. Afternoon proceed for half day city tour. Overnight stay
Day 04 :
Morning after breakfast drive 140 kms to reach Darcha (3400M) via Rohtang
pass. Spend some time at the pass to enjoy the beauty around. Continue to
reach Darcha by late afternoon. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 05 :
Darcha/ Chalang Tokpo (Trek)
Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Chalang Tokpo (3580M) in about
5-6 hours. This day's trek is easy and Gradual all the way. Overnight stay
Chalang Tokpo/Zanskar Sumdo/Ramjak (Trek)
Morning after breakfast start an easy trekking to Zanskar Sumdo (3750M). Proceed
to Ramjak., Total trekking time is approx. 7-8 hours. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 07 :
Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Chumikanakpo (4060 in about
5-6 hours. Climb steeply immediately after the Campsite and then climb gradually
upto Chumikanakpo. Arrive and overnight stay in tents.
Day 08 :
Morning after an early breakfast start trekking 16 Kms to reach Lakong (4100M)
by crossing Shingo La 5100m). The climb to the pass is not difficult but climbing
down is quite steep through the Glacier. The day is quite long and Tiring,
7-8 hours approx. Arrive and overnight stay in tents.
Day 09 :
Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Kurgiak (4060 M) by covering
approx. 14 Kms, 6-7 hours approx. Now you will find the difference in the
features of the mountains as you are in Zanskar, Arrive and overnight in stay
Day 10 :
Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Purne (3745M) trek for about
5-6 hours. Arrive and overnight stay in tents.
Day 11 :
Purne/Phuktal Gompa/Purne (Trek)
Morning after breakfast start trekking for an excursion to Phutkal Gompa which
in one the most impressive Gompas in Ladakh by covering approx 14 kms. Return
back to purne and overnight stay in tents.
Day 12 :
Morning after breakfast, cross small Canyons of Pudding stones, which leads
to Char village and passing Hanumi and Surle villages. Arrive at Ichar, 5-6
hours approx. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 13 :
Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Mone (3650 M) 5-6 hours approx
.Arrive and overnight stay in tents.
Day 14 :
Mone / Padum (Trek)
Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Padum (3560 M), 5 - 6 hrs
approx. Padum is the old capital of Zanskar. Arrive and overnight stay in
Day 15 :
Rest Day in Padum
Day 16 :
Drive Padum - Kargil
Day 17 :
Drive Kargil - Lamayuru
Day 18 :
Drive Lamayuru - Leh
Day 19 :
Post breakfast full day to acclimatize in Leh or you can also it to take a
tour of some of the famous Gompas (Monasteries) around Leh.
Thiksey Gompa :
17 kms from Leh enroute to Hemis Gompa, the Thiksey monastery
provides a panoramic view of the Indus valley from its vantage point atop a
hill. There are several temples and wall paintings of the Buddha. Close by is
the summer palace of the old Raja of Leh. This monastery is 800 years old with
statues made of silver and gold.
Shey Gompa :
This monastery has a large 7.5 m copper statue of Buddha
plated with gold.
Hemis Gompa :
40 kms from Leh, built in 1630, it is the biggest monastery
in Ladakh. It is not visible from the road as it is located in a side valley.
Hemis has the largest thanka in Ladakh, which is unfurled once in 12 years (next
in 2004). It celebrates an annual festival attended by people from all over
the provinces who come to join in the celebrated mask dances. Packed lunch enroute.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 20 :
Morning excursion to Phyang Gompa. This Gompa is 20 kms from Leh on the right
side of Leh-Srinagar road. The beautiful statues and Thankas are worth seeing.
Also visit Spituk Gompa which lies on the right side of Srinagar-Leh road
about 6 kms short of Leh Proper. Some very interesting Thankas are pride of
this monastery. Afternoon free. Dinner overnight Hotel
Day 21 :
Transfer to domestic airport in time to board flight for Delhi. Arrive and
transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
